This bold body-suit style work, (some of the first largescale Asian body-work done on this side of the world) was perhaps Jerry’s most important contribution to tattooing as a whole. From years of his study, practice, and letter-writing, what emerged was a force that shook the tattooing world awake — and it is thanks to tattoos just like this, that the likes of Ed Hardy, Mike Malone, Zeke Owen, and many other visionary tattooers would be inspired to carry the torch forward.

In 1973 Jerry hosted a small gathering of tattooists from around the globe, to meet and share ideas, yes — but also to introduce a pricing structure for large-scale, horimono-style tattooing here in the states. The gathering was known as “The Council of Seven”, and with each set of photos is included a copy of the letter created by Jerry to commemorate this eventful meeting, (carefully struck from Mike Malone’s personal copy.)
